According to the CDC, 6.4 million children ages 4-17 have been diagnosed with ADHD. That is a 42% increase in just 8 years. 6.1% of American children are estimated to be on prescribed medications for the disorder. Some say this is the single most current crisis for children in America.

Attention is the process that allows us to take in information. This includes alertness, selection of what deserves attention, sustaining attention over time, and shifting attention briefly when important new information is introduced. Often it is very difficult to focus and pay attention due to processing issues with memory, language, and speed of response.Attention is a top-level concern where many parents and educators focus with their children. Often there are underlying difficulties within the individual brain that can be sharpened to help with the two kinds of focus necessary to get through the day.

Increased focused and flexible attention skills as well as the capability to transition fluidly between the two are abilities that can be learned.
